Dentures, Etobicoke

Dentures are prosthetic replacements for the natural teeth and tissues. In cases where an accident, illness, or inadequate oral hygiene has caused the loss of a significant portion or all of your healthy teeth, the dental professionals at Queen's Plate Dental may recommend dentures as a replacement option. The two principal classifications of dentures are complete and partial. Through the process of obtaining impressions, the dentist constructs a replica of your teeth during the fabrication of both partial and complete prostheses. These replicas are subsequently employed in the custom fabrication of your dentures.

Type Of Dentures

  • Complete Dentures (Full Dentures): Complete dentures are utilized when all natural teeth are absent or need to be replaced in an arch (either upper or lower). The purpose of these prostheses is to replicate the appearance and functionality of natural teeth and tissues. Complete dentures may be immediate or conventional.
  • The traditional Complete Dentures: Following the extraction of the remaining teeth and the healing of the tissues, these dentures are fabricated. Typically, they are inserted a few months following tooth extraction.
  • Immediate Complete Dentures: These dentures are fabricated beforehand and are inserted promptly following the remaining teeth being extracted. Despite the fact that they provide the benefit of avoiding tooth loss during the recovery process, additional adjustments may be necessary as the gums contract and repair.
  • Partial Dentures: When only a few teeth are missing and the remaining natural teeth are robust enough to support the denture, partial dentures are recommended. For stabilization, they are comprised of replacement teeth affixed to a metal or acrylic framework that clasps onto the natural teeth. Partial dentures offer a functional and aesthetically pleasing solution that prevents adjacent natural teeth from migrating.
  • Implant-Supported Dentures: Dental implants surgically implanted into the mandible secure implant-supported dentures. These dentures provide greater comfort and stability than conventional dentures due to their secure attachment to the implants. They are suitable for both partial and complete denture alternatives.
  • Overdentures: Overdentures are removable prostheses that are placed over a limited number of natural teeth or dental implants that remain. These remaining teeth or implants enhance the comfort and functionality of the denture by providing additional stability and retention.
  • Snap-In Dentures: Snap-in dentures are a form of overdenture that is removable for cleansing and maintenance and attaches to dental implants via special attachments, providing a more secure fit.
  • Flexible Dentures: Dentures that are flexible are constructed from a material that conforms to the contour of the gums. Some patients may find them more aesthetically pleasing and comfortable due to the absence of metal clasps for support.
  • Custom Dentures: Certain dentists provide custom dentures that are tailored to the unique oral anatomy of each patient, guaranteeing the highest level of comfort and functionality.
